save our waterways
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Notice of Intent to Issue a Permit to Cape Coral permitting Cape Coral to remove the Chiquita Lock on the South Spreader waterway. MCA and others successfully opposed the first effort to remove the Lock due to the disastrous effects it would have on our waters and the mangroves west of the spreader. We have seen what happened to our waters when Cape Coral removed the similar lock known as the Ceitus Boat Lift Barrier on the North Spreader.
Please let us know whether you are opposed to the issuance of this permit, and whether you would be willing to join a petition to require an Administrative Hearing. Please spread the word to persons who live below the Lock on the Caloosahatchee and Sanibel. Their waters will be further devastated, just as our waters have been polluted by the removal of the Ceitus Boat Lift Barrier.
